The Danish Vikings were masters of the sea whose impact was felt throughout Europe between the 9th and 11th centuries. We visit two of the network of ring forts at Fyrkat and Trelleborg, the earliest post-Roman town in Northern Europe at Ribe, the largest Viking Age town at Haithabu, and the royal mounds at Jelling. Denmark also boasts some world-leading museums including the National Museum of Denmark and the Viking Ship Museum.

  • Come face to face with the Iron Age Tollund Man, Europe’s most famous bog body
  • Visit the once-important trading centre of Haithabu to see the original settlement site, some reconstructed buildings and the museum
  • Wander across Lindholm Hoje, a major Viking burial site including ship-shaped stone settings
  • Visit Jelling to view the famous rune stones of Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth
