Itinerary 2019

Day 1

After settling into our hotel in Split, we have an introductory walk around this wonderful city.
Hotel: Hotel Cornaro
Meals: Dinner included

Day 2

We acquaint ourselves with Split, a delightful fusion of ancient and modern, beginning by tracing the walls and monuments of the immense Palace of Diocletian, which is interwoven with later Medieval houses. The emperor Diocletian, one of the few emperors to go into real retirement, cultivated his market garden in an attempt to avoid being sucked back into the power politics of the Roman world. We visit the Cathedral, where we view Diocletian’s mausoleum. The rags to riches emperor began building this complex in AD 305.
Hotel: Hotel Cornaro
Meals: All meals included

Day 3

Our exploration of ancient Split continues this morning as we descend underground to view the Roman foundations that still support much of the modern city.

In the afternoon we will indulge in some free time to perhaps visit the fantastic local markets, discover the area’s rich folk and history museums, or just unwind as you stroll around the streets that are steeped in enchanting stories.
Hotel: Hotel Cornaro
Meals: All meals included

Day 4

This morning we visit the Roman site of Trilj, which has many archaeological findings dating back to the Mesolithic era.

Later, in the afternoon, we travel to the spectacular Klis castle. It served as a source of defence in Dalmatia, especially against the Ottoman advance. It is now one of the most significant fortifications in the region, boasting spectacular views of the village of Klis itself, and of the Adriatic.
