Ancient Egypt at the Bristol Museum
From $260
Summary
From Seti I’s tomb to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery
This study day will begin with Egyptologist Lucia Gahlin giving a lecture on the colourful circus strongman Giovanni Battista Belzoni’s  discovery of the most splendid tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, the tomb of Pharaoh Seti I. Lucia will explain why a comprehensive study of this tomb in watercolours by Belzoni and Alessandrow Ricci resides today in the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. We will then have special access to a selection of ancient Egyptian artefacts not usually on display. After lunch we will return to the museum for a guided tour of the Ancient Egypt gallery, exploring a wide range of objects relating to personal adornment, religious belief, and many other aspects of life and afterlife in Ancient Egypt. We will end our day with a discussion in front of David Roberts’s wonderful 1841 oil painting of the iconic Egyptian Temple of Dendera.
