Christmas in Thessaloniki
Founded in 315 BCE, Thessaloniki is a city whose historical importance and legacy can be said to rival that of Athens. In antiquity, the city served as a hub in both the Macedonian and Roman periods and it was a bastion of Byzantine power in the Balkans later on. The long history of this UNESCO listed harbour city is evidenced by many monuments dotted on its streets, including the Palace and Mausoleum of Emperor Galerius, the Byzantine walls, ancient Orthodox churches and Ottoman mosques. We also venture beyond the city walls to the fabulous sites of Pella and Verghina – home of Philip II and Alexander the Great. This tour offers a wonderful way to spend Christmas immersed in one of the great bustling cosmopolitan centres of the ancient and historic world.
Please note: Due to Christmas opening hours the order of some site visits may change.
