Dr Eleanor Blakelock
I am a trained archaeometallurgist who specialises in Early Medieval metalwork. My primary fieldwork experience is at Sedgeford in Norfolk, where I am now the director of excavation of the largest trench.
I am interested in all aspects of Anglo-Saxon life, and industrial processes such as metalwork, glassworking and now malting. My PhD focused on the technology of Anglo-Saxon and Viking iron production and iron knives. Since then I has carried out research on the metal objects from the Staffordshire Hoard and more recently the objects from Anglo-Saxon Rendlesham. At Sedgeford the current focus of excavation is a large internationally significant malting complex.
