Falco & Albia's Britannia with Lindsey Davis

Falco & Albia's Britannia with Lindsey Davis

Summary

We are delighted to offer a newly revised version of a tour which takes a unique look at aspects of Roman Britain. Viewed by the Romans themselves as ‘the end of the road’ with horrible weather, we’ll consider how the Roman occupation of Britain worked – and how it famously failed to work in the traumatic Boudican Revolt. Starting in London at the British Museum, key sites we visit will include Butser Ancient Farm, Fishbourne Roman Palace, Dorchester and Bath, with a trip to the silver mines at Charterhouse.

Your guides will be Oliver Gilkes, one of our most popular and erudite archaeologist tour leaders and Lindsey Davis, the award-winning historical novelist. Note: the theme of the tour is very specific: how the young province of Britannia inspired characters and events in Lindsey’s long-running Falco detective series, its continuing sequel with Flavia Albia, and even the magazine serial that provided Lindsey’s ‘big break’ (which has recently been republished). So, you will hear how Oliver and Lindsey first met thirty years ago in Rome, where they dreamed of one day leading a Falco tour – a meeting brought about through a mutual friend, with the help of Woman’s Realm
