Relaxed Nice

Summary
Capital of the French Riveira
The Côte d’Azur brings to mind a vision of glamourous parties, glistening super yachts and beautiful Impressionist landscapes. A few days in Nice, celebrated for its captivating azure coastline, could easily be spent simply people-watching and enjoying its world-famous beach and promenade. Yet, two thousand years ago, this playground of the rich was situated on the major highway from Gaul to Rome, the Via Julia Augusta, and Nice, was a vital port connecting the Italian peninsula with Iberia and serving as a gateway to Gallic territories. The city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021, and its surrounds, are therefore rich in archaeology and ancient ruins and serve as a wonderful base for a relaxed exploration of the Côte d'Azur.
