Relaxed Trier

Relaxed Trier

Summary

Archaeology on the Moselle

Nestled in the picturesque Moselle Valley, Trier was an important provincial capital in Roman times, known as Augusta Treverorum; it was the residence of emperors, a centre of trade and the largest market in an ancient wine-growing area. Today, still surrounded vineyards, this ancient city boasts an extraordinary concentration of remarkably preserved Roman monuments, earning it UNESCO World Heritage status. Compact and walkable, it is easy to explore on foot and this tour offers you the delights of its Roman remains as well as its wonderful Gothic architecture resonant of the city’s prosperity in Middle Ages. Absorbed in the majesty of the Moselle region, we will also take excursions out of the city to see the remains of two opulent Roman villas: Nennig and Borg, as well as the UNESCO listed historic centre of Luxembourg. And of course, we will take the opportunity to sample the region’s famous wine with a tasting of its famous Rieslings.
