Turin & Genoa

Turin & Genoa

Summary

Baroque grandeur and maritime majesty

Discover two of northern Italy's most captivating cities as we explore the artistic, architectural, and political legacy of two pivotal centres of Italian history: Turin, capital of the House of Savoy, and Genoa, the influential maritime republic known as La Superba.

In Turin, we investigate the dynasty's cultural ambitions through their extraordinary collections and commissions. We enjoy one of the world's finest Egyptian collections and discover sumptuous royal palaces including Palazzo Madama and the magnificent La Venaria Reale. We admire Guarini's architectural masterpiece, the Chiesa San Lorenzo, and discover outstanding art collections at the Galleria Sabauda and Pinacoteca Agnelli. In Genoa, where Renaissance palaces line the UNESCO-listed Strada Nuova, we explore the architectural and artistic expression of mercantile wealth. We visit the opulent Palazzo Reale and explore the Strada Nuova Museums—Palazzi Rosso, Bianco, and Doria Tursi - housing masterpieces by Van Dyck, Caravaggio, and Veronese.

Led by expert Guide Lecturer Dr Eireann Marshall, this tour combines world-class museums, stunning architecture, and the rich cultural heritage of two cities that shaped Italian and European history.
