Summary

Discover a wealth of intriguing history

The City of London and Southwark have a history which extends back over 2,000 years. This tour will explore this complex and beautiful area from its earliest beginnings and will focus on the city’s Roman and Medieval past before coming face to face with the modern city. We will explore the city on foot up into the modern age, on a walking tour. After setting the scene for Roman Britain at the British Museum, we will trace back the city’s history from the foundation of Londinium in AD 43 up to the beginning of the 20th century at Whitechapel and discover the secrets of this global metropolis.

Tour highlights:

  • Walk along the remains of the London Wall and discover other Roman sites hidden beneath modern street level
  • Explore the 18th century at Dennis Severs’ House with its recreated interior
  • Visit the remains of the Rose Theatre, a site our expert guide was involved in preserving
  • Get a glimpse at medieval London during a cruise along the Thames
